To stay connected in the professional world, LinkedIn is the place to be.
Whether it’s getting in touch with potential clients and former teammates, or making new connections, this platform is all about business.
To get in touch with others business people, having a professional photograph is highly recommended.
>> Studies show that a profile with a high-quality picture is 10 times more likely to be viewed than a profile without no picture at all. Be aware though: not any photo will do the job.

Here is a perfect example of a great LinkedIn profile picture:

So, all you need to know is what makes a great LinkedIn profile photo?
In this platform of business networking, your profile picture is one of the most important elements.
It’s crucial that your profile photo conveys who you actually are and matches your character.
Here are a few tips to make an awesome long-lasting first impression.

1. Dress professionally.

Wear the type of outfit you would wear at work or at a networking event. Avoid a “too casual” outfit. Keep the beachwear for Facebook or other non-professional platforms. However, if your industry is casual, you can dress that way too.

2. Smile like you really mean it.

Here, you aim to look professional and approachable at the same time. Smile and look straight into the camera.

3. Avoid group shots, please!

Family portrait or group photo with other people (friends or colleagues) have to be avoided. This is YOUR profile and YOUR online business card. Focus only on you.

4. No out-dated shots.

It can be quite tempting to go back into your archives to our slimmer selves with better hair… But stay recent. You want people to recognize you, reason why you have to use a recent photo of you. your photograph must be less than 2 or 3 years old maximum.

5. Follow LinkedIn’s rules.

LinkedIn sets its rules for profile pictures very clearly. Landscape pictures,  animals, logos and other types of images are not allowed. You want to get it perfect—if you mess it up three times, LinkedIn can limit your account and stop you from uploading your headshot for a while, and you don’t want that.

6. Consider a professional.

If you’re really serious about getting a great headshot for your profile, the best option is to find a local photographer. There’s plenty of them, the best option for choosing a photographer is simply to search on LinkedIn and check his profile picture. That kind of service should cost you only between 100$ and 300$ for a set of a few shots, and it really worth it.
You can also search for portrait studios in your neighborhood. If you’re based in Singapore, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us HERE, we know a few awesome photographers who can do a super job.
LinkedIn won’t accept your photo if it’s bigger than 20,000 pixels wide or tall, or if the file is over 10 megabytes. It also needs to be at least 400 x 400 pixels, but we recommend it to be at least 1000×1000 for quality purpose.
